Christmas sermons 2013...

During the course of Advent and Christmas 2013, a number of sermons and talks were delivered within our church worship at St Peter's.  These were delivered by a variety of ministers, both at the Parish Eucharists and in other services of worship from the season.

What is posted here is the sequence of three sermons preached by the Vicar, Fr Paul Trathen, across three occasions: the Fourth Sunday of Advent (Sunday 22 December 2013), the Midnight Mass of Christmas (preached in Christmas Night 2013) and the First Sunday of Christmas (Sunday 29 December 2013)....





The first of these, from the Fourth Sunday of Advent, reflects on the challenge and promise given to Our Lady Mary and her husband, St Joseph, drawing on the scripture in Luke's Gospel, chapter 1:





The Christmas Night sermon reflects on the Good News of Christmas as that which is available to all people, without barriers or preconditions.  It makes reference to the fabulous song 'Ain't No Chimneys in the Projects' by Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings, which you can watch/listen to here, before listening to the sermon:








The sermon from the first Sunday in Christmastide reflects on the divine drama around the early life of the Holy Family, fleeing horror and threat to seek refuge:
